Biography
Ruby Dhal is a content creator, performer, and bestselling self-published author of 5 books of micro poetry, prose and bitesize self-help, with a social media following of over half a million. She had a tough start in life and turned to books as a form of escapism, gaining a Master’s in Philosophy from King’s College London and eventually using her pain to inspire her writing. In 2017 Ruby was only 1 of 7 South Asian Women in the world to be included in the Harper’s Bazaar Writer Hotlist and the following year she was included in Untwine.Me’s list of ‘100 Incredible Instapoets’.
Ruby currently creates content on mental health, love, heartbreak, grief, loss, moving on, self-love and healing journeys via various social media platforms, with her work garnering millions of impressions each week. She is loved and appreciated all around the world, including by celebrities such as Rochelle and Marvin Humes, Paris Hilton, Grammy-nominated singer Candice Pillay, Khloe Kardashian, and influencers in the self-love space including Vex King.
She is an ambassador for the mental health charity Be Free Campaign and last year was nominated for the ‘Young Achiever’ category in the South Asian Women of Achievement Awards. She was also listed as one of ‘20 under 40 inspirational leaders to follow in 2021’.
Her 2024 TEDx Talk Rediscovering self-love, not self-care is available to watch here.
"You get to choose who you want to be. You get to choose who you allow into the creases of your heart. You get to choose the hands that make you come undone and the arms that hold you. You get to choose the people that you let into your life, and the love that you want. And I hope you choose yourself as well. I hope you see all the good that is in your life and stop focusing on the bad. I hope you change the story that you tell yourself about your past and see yourself as the main character instead - as the person who, despite the odds, changed their life for the better. I hope you realize how far you've come from where you were. Because life isn't easy most of the time - things are bound to go wrong. But I hope you let go of the pain and choose happiness instead."
