Heather Lyons
Biography
Heather Lyons has a Masters degree in Architecture from Princeton and has done further advanced study in Computer Science at UCL. She has been working in digital media since 1999 and has designed a series of award winning apps, software and websites. She has taught at the Architectural Association in London, specialising in computer-based design. Heather also has three young children.
She founded Blue{shift} in 2013 with a colleague and the classes proved more successful than they could have imagined. Within a year attendance grew from six children per term to nearly 200, from a single class around a kitchen table to multiple classes and camps held at a number of schools across London. Blue{shift} espouses a creative approach to computing and teaches hundreds of children aged 6-12 using a range of languages and programming environments. The high level of interest revealed a burning need for this tuition and a huge gap in the educational marketplace.
Books
Blue{shift}'s success led to a series of eight books on coding (co-authored with Elizabeth Tweedale) aimed at Key Stage 1 learners, published by Hachette in March 2016.
