Heather Darwall-Smith is one of the UK’s top sleep specialists. A psychotherapist, public speaker and author, she holds a master’s degree in Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy and has further training in sleep medicine, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.


 

Biography

Heather Darwall-Smith is a sleep specialist psychotherapist based in London. She holds a master’s degree in Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy and has further training in sleep medicine, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Heather is dedicated to helping her clients achieve restful sleep, improved mental health, and overall well-being through evidence-based techniques.

Heather has a deep understanding of the intricate relationship between sleep and mental health as well as expertise in addressing sleep issues within the neurodiverse population. Her work takes into account how how sleep issues are often intertwined with various bio/psycho/social factors.

Having previously worked as a Sleep Psychotherapist at The London Sleep Centre Heather now runs her own successful practice in central London. She also works with companies on developing Corporate Sleep and Stress Reduction Programs. She is the spokesperson for sleep for UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and is regularly invited to comment in the media.

She is the author of The Science of Sleep, a comprehensive guide published by DK and translated into multiple languages. Her second book will be published by HarperCollins in February 2025.

Heather’s first book, THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP, was published by DK in 2021.

Her second book HOW TO BE AWAKE (SO YOU CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT) will be published by HarperCollins in February 2025.
